Certain biological changes are inevitable as an individual grows older. These changes in physiological functioning are likely to affect cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition.

Masters Swimming is nothing less than a fountain of youth for its participants, a point driven home by exceptional performances of swimmers who are already well into middle age. This demostrates the remarkable effect life-long physical activity can have on "turning back the clock"

While the aging process is inexorable, Masters swimmers show a marvelous ability to slow it down, and in some cases even reverse it. Research shows us that the ordinary person loses 5 to 10% of our capacity for each decade after 30. The good news is that, with continued training, this rate of decline can be radically reduced, and the quality of both athletic performance and life itself, can be very positively affected by Masters training.

Over 30,000 men and women nationwide ages 19 to over 100, plus many more countries around the world, participate in Masters swimming. They represent all levels of ability. Their major focus may be fitness, pool competition, open water swimming, triathlons or most often, a combination of these interests
